Whatā€™s up yā€™all āš”ļø hereā€™s the April issue of the Dice Roll šŸŽ² newsletter.

You probably noticed that I didnā€™t release an issue the past month! Iā€™ve been restructuring my business operations and had to decide what direction I wanted the newsletter to go.

For the time being, Iā€™m going to put a text version of some of the latest news from Dice Slice in each issue along with some extra bonuses for supporters of my video content.

-Spotify developing tools so that users can remix music and the original music owners will be paid for the remixes. Spotify also has posted job listings looking for UGC leadership role so its possible that Spotify will be leaning into more user generated content in the near future.

-Superfan app Even exits beta and will report sales to Luminate and qualify for Billboard US charts. EVEN is an added layer to the already existing ways you share your music. You have the chance to sell directly to your fans and provide them experiences or exclusives in exchange for buying your music before it hits DSPs. Attended the EVEN Q&A and learned more about the platform.

-TikTok working on two new apps, TikTok Notes (instagram competitor) and TikTok Lite for Spain and France (simpler version of tiktok with rewards system)

-Open AIā€™s ChatGPT-4 TURBO launches out of beta for premium subscribers. Improved writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding capabilities compared to beta version. Also GPT4-Turbo + Vision gives your AI the ability to see and understand the world around you.


-New music making app, Udio raises $10m and launches with backing from Wil.i.am, Common, and United Masters. Allows for you to instantly create a mastered track in 40 seconds. Tested it and itā€™s mindblowing.

-Twitch music licensing deals ā€œin the worksā€ for streamers live content

-Onesheet by ChartMetric exits beta and is now live. onesheet.club

-TikTok Bill being fast tracked through congress and also is attached to another piece of legislation focused on aid to both Ukraine and Israel. The one primary change is that it would give TikTok a full year rather than only 6 months.

-Midia has just posted a new report on what they call the Bifurcation Theory. The music business will continue to split into two parts. The streaming side and the social side. The streaming side is for the mainstream and lean back fans. The social side is the home of fandom and the creator economy. According to the report, ā€œThe fracture points of todayā€™s music business are simultaneously the catalysts for tomorrowā€™s.ā€

-J. Cole's 'might delete later' becomes his seventh no. 1 on top r&b/hip-hop albums chart

-Taylor Swiftā€™s new album turns out to be a secret second album. Broke Spotify pre-save records.

-Heā€™s ā€œThe lonely stonerā€ no more, Kid Cudi reveals engagement to designer Lola Abecassis and says ā€œLife is wild, and right when I felt my future was uncertain, it became crystal clear with Lola. Happy Cud in full effect.ā€

-Dropping on August 2, a new M. Night Shyamalan Trap is a mystery thriller that ā€œfollows a father and teen daughter attending a pop concert, where they realize theyā€™re at the center of a dark and sinister event.ā€

-Legendary hip-hop icons, Nas and DJ Premier team up on new single ā€œdefine my nameā€ to celebrate ā€˜Illmaticā€™ anniversary.

-Meta rolls out an AI search bar into all of its products for instant results, creative gen, and more.

-Merlin and Audiomack partner to amplify independent artists, ā€œThrough Audiomackā€™s partnership with Merlin, weā€™re not just amplifying independent musicā€”weā€™re revolutionizing how artists connect with their fans and how fans listen to their music,ā€ shares Dave Macli, CEO of Audiomack. ā€œMerlin members can now claim their artistsā€™ Audiomack accounts to send messages to their fans, and using Audiomodā€”those fans can listen to their favorite artistā€™s music in a brand new way.ā€

-Microsoft new AI system called VASA1 can generate a realistic video from a single image and audio clip. Life like audio-driven talking faces generated in real time. Itā€™s very realistic and produces lip movements, head movements, and more lifelike motion instantly. Microsoft says it wonā€™t release a demo, API, or product with VASA-1 ā€œuntil we are certain that the technology will be used responsibly.ā€
